Lyddie and Charlie continued to think about when and if Papa would ever come home. "She can't, not so long as Papa is alive" said Lyddie. Lyddie tells Charlie that they need to sell the calf and hide the money to help them take care of the farm when papa comes back one day.Ĭharlie said, "maybe Mama'll sell the farm" ![]() "You know, Charlie, the calf is rightfully ours"Īs they continued their conversation, Lyddie and Charlie decided that because Mama was selling them away to work to pay off the family debts, they did not owe her the calf which was worth some money. "she got no cause to" Charles said, "we never tell her about it" Lyddie said to Charlie, "She didn't say nothing about the calf" As Lyddie and Charlie began to pack their belongings to leave their farm they felt very sad. ![]()
